rock and roll fiasco

so. this is most likely my last dispatch before i can buy beer anywhere i want. i will be able to buy beer anywhere i want as of tomorrow because i will be 21. but you should have known that by now.

tomorrow is my 21st birthday, and the like young are playing at a bar in lansing. this, obviously, is the ideal situation for me. see a band you like in a bar on your 21st. brilliant. too bad the day that i was going to ask for my birthday off, the work schedule was already up and i'm scheduled until midnight tomorrow. and no one wants to take a closing shift on a friday. who knew? so... i can't see the band at the bar on my birthday.

luckily, the fates smiled upon me and scheduled the like young to play in detroit last night. i went. i dragged ben along. "doors at 8." well the opening band wasn't scheduled until 10, so after getting a slush and hanging in front of a gas station, i called jodi and we visited her new-esque apartment. we ate chili that was probably vegan. and good. we got back to the vicinity of the bar a little before 10 and we hear music. it's the like young. who would have thought that the only national act scheduled was opening for a bunch of unkowns? we missed a few songs, but got to see them anyways. the set was sort of sloppy because i guess they perceived that they were late after coming directly from chicago, but it was still good. ben was impressed, which is good because i was worried that i was going to have to let him drink for free at my next party. i wasn't as much of a cheesy fan as i was last year and i got a shirt and a free super small pin.

as previously mentioned, all of the other acts were ones never before heard of, most likely local. the second was called all right tokyo. unfortunately, it was not a japanese rock act. it was two guys wearing certain aspects of tuxedos, like they had just come from the late-20-somethings prom. both "sang." the first song started off ladies/gentlemen/ladies/gentlemen... alternating between the two... blah blah blah. the second song was about how they're going to be the next big thing, movie to hollywood, and invest in fake breasts for their girlfriends. that was our cue to exit. home before midnight.
